Every tournament I recall going to (and I've been to quite few) has used
the 20-minute overtime rule, not the five-minute OT used in regular season
games. I know that doesn't make it "the rule," but reading what has been
posted here sure seems to make it pretty clear. I haven't seen anything
posted here that stipulates that this is for the NCAA tourney only. Does
it elsewhere in the book? If not, then the way I read it, if the Ice
Breaker is an NCAA-sanctioned event, and if the games count for anything,
then there is no interpretation of the OT rule. It was handled
incorrectly.
BTW, how DO you obtain a copy of the 1999 NCAA Ice Hockey Rules and
Interpretations book?
