Saturday afternoon, during the second day of the Husky Tournament, the
Northeastern Huskies bombed the Providence College Friars 6-1. It was a
relatively static contest. Before the game, NU raised their 1997 ECAC
Championship banner to the rafters of Matthews.

The match opened with both teams reaching for the puck, but nobody really
moving. The only score occurred late in the period when Northeastern defender
Keri-Anne Allan's dump shot from the point found net at the near post.

In the second, neither team was on song, but NU made the most of their
chances. Crystal Baumgartner (Lisa Giovanelli) made it 2-0 Huskies when she
knocked in a rebound. NU went further in front when Jennifer Santerre (Kelly
Martin, Jaime Totten) hit home a splendid back door pass from Martin on a
power play. Colleen Coen (Baumgartner) made it 4-0 Northeastern with another
power play goal. Coen drilled a rebound to the low far post.

In the final segment, the Huskies periodically mounted some more interesting
attacks. Baumgartner (Allan) roofed a breakaway just as a PC power play ended
to give NU a 5-0 lead. Friar Jessica Tabb (Myia Yates) finished off a nice 1-
2 play late in the game to put PC on the board. Santerre (Giovanelli,
Baumgartner) completed the scoring for Northeastern when she roofed her try
during a nice break-in play.

Providence again had troubles establishing any kind of flow to their play.
Fresher Tabb continued to display her fine skill set, but could probably add
some more kill instinct to her game. On the blue line, senior captain
Catherine Hanson did a ton of skating for her team and made some fine breakup
plays. Alain Frankiewicz also played a strong match on defense and used her
smart reads well. Overall, not a memorable outing for PC.

Northeastern is not playing great. The team skating just ain't cuttin' it.
Senior defender Allan played a very intelligent game and held the team
together. Kim Beneduce made some very important clearances from her blue line
position. Fresher Jessica Ferwerda made a series of impressive interceptions
that help keep her team on top. Up front, Colleen Coen showed some motoring
ability. The fresher still needs to learn how to move off the puck better,
but Coen is starting fit into the system. Overall, a fair game for
development.
