Because of an NCAA rule change, Union College will be able to play a
28-game schedule starting next season. Union was restricted to a
25-game schedule under the old rule. Since Ice Hockey is the only
Division I sport at Union, the rest being Division III, Union had to
adhere to the 25-game limit for Division III schools. The Dutchmen
could play as many as 30 games - the limit imposed by the ECAC, but
will play 28, the same number as the Ivy League schools. Union will
add one non-league home game next year, and probably participate in a
holiday tournament. Union AD Dick Sakala also mentioned the
possibility of Union starting its own tournament.
