In a nice article in today's Wisconsin State Journal, Bill
Brophy, the sports editor reported on Gino Gasparini's
resignation at North Dakota.

Here are some excerpts:

... John Gasparini, the hockey coach for the last 16 years at
North Dakota who resigned following a philosophical dispute with
UND athletic director Terry Wanless last week.

        ...

"I don't like what's going on, said Sauer, the University of
Wisconsin coach, who spoke with Gasparini Monday. "Gino put
in a lot of time and effort and has done an excellent job.
Its tough to lose guys out of the league like that. Gino
didn't want to leave, but it got to the point where it was a
decision he had to make... I do know that the league has lost
a voice with clout and experince and its a big loss."

        ...

Neither Wanless nor Gasparini have said what caused the
veteran coach to step aside, but the fans have spoken. Two
community members of an advisory committee to North Dakota
athletics resigned in protest of Gasparini's forced
resignation. A petition circulated called for Wanless'
resignation. A few boosters have said they will withhold
financial support for the athletic department, which has a
    budget deficit of $100,000.

The article does not say what the philosophical difference was.
Wanless has been AD since 1990. Gino was AD as well as hockey
coach until then.

According to Brophy, Speculation on successors includes:
Dean Blais, former assistant coach at UND and the 1992
Olympic team, currently coaching International Falls,
        Minn. High School.

Cary Eades, former UND assistant who coached Warroad to
the Minnesota state high school Class A title in his
        first year.

Western Michigan coach Bill Wilkinson, a former UND
        assitant.

        Ex-Denver coach Frank Serratore.

In the same article, Brophy lists the leading candidates for the
Denver job as:
George Gwozdecky, Miami (Ohio) head coach
        Bruce Crowder, Lowel head coach
Jerry York, Bowling Green head coach
