ICECATS BEAT STANFORD, SAN JOSE GAME CANCELLED

After beating Stanford 7-3 late Saturday night as the clock approached midnight
in Redwood City, Calif., the Arizona IceCats couldn't have been too excited
about preparing for their next game - less than 12 hours away.

But a game scheduled for 11:15 a.m. yesterday against San Jose State was
cancelled because of an ice problem.

The result was a two-game sweep of Stanford and a return home with a 16-1
record.

After beating Stanford 6-4 Friday night, the IceCats completed the sweep with
the win Saturday night.

Steve Hutchings scored two goals and had three assists Saturday night. His
first assist set up the game's first score, a Dan Divjak goal at 12:10 of the
first period.

Hutchings' second assist made it 2-0 early in the second period. He set up
defenseman Jeremy Goltz's fourth goal of the weekend.

"That isn't bad for a defenseman," coach Leo Golembiewski said.

Chris Noga gave the IceCats a 3-1 lead later in the second period by scoring
unassisted after racing two-thirds the length of the ice.

Adding goals for the IceCats were John Muntz and Sam Battaglia.

The IceCats outshot Stanford in every period, 60-30 for the game.

Fourteen penalties were called in the third period - eight against the IceCats,
six against Stanford.

"The third period was a pretty wide open period," Golembiewski said. "Obviously,
it was nuts."

The IceCats will host [#9] Michigan-Dearborn on Friday and Saturday night at the
Tucson Convention Center. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.

One other item: I have not received any direct mail from the hockey-l server
since Sunday. Wayne, can you help out at all or at least can someone forward
a message if there is a problem?

Thanks in advance,
