There was a strong rumor two years ago that Disney CEO was going to
support the institution of D-1 hockey at USC and UCLA...he was quite
visible in Anaheim...... With two teams there and one at Stanford, then
a west coast conference could become a reality ("Hockey West")........in
the long run, as hockey grows in popularity, the spread of D-1 hockey is
inevitable.....it should be encouraged by all of us who love the
game....
As for where the players will come from.........years ago, the same
bleat came from those "haves" who didn't want to see the NHL talent pool
"diluted" .... build the teams and "they will come" from the Juniors,
from the high schools and other developmental programs......even from
High Schools on the west coast where new teams will spring up with the
advent of new rinks and the development of new college role models
(along with the pros)
