Mike,

I've got no comment on the game itself, but I noticed that there were
less than 1000 fans in attendance. If this is the baseline for fan
support this leads to a question about Merrimack's viability as a Hockey
East school. I know you can comment on this.

On a related issue, I have always wondered why, on both the pro and
college level, no thought has been given, and no discussions I have
noticed, ever suggest adopting the system of divisions European soccer
leagues use which provide *both* upward and downward mobility, moving up
2-4 teams and dropping the same number. This causes fan interest to be
just as intense, perhaps more, for the teams fighting to stay in the top
flight. It also increases fan interest in the lower divisions because
the move up can happen with a successful season.

Lest people think that this comment comes from an arrogant BU fan, in the
pros I have followed the Mets, Jets, Knicks, and Rangers. The only
Boston pro team I root for is the Red Sox, indicating the masochist I
truly am. BU has always been a tonic for me :-)
