Reply to Eric Rickin.
Ohio *is* the operative word here.
In Western (at least) NYS, at the Midget level, there is a split-
season arrangement for H.S. players.
H.S. players (not only those who play for H.S. teams in independent
conferences [Sittler] or in H.S. "Club" conferences [Haig], but also
those who play for H.S. teams in a "Section" [the equivalent of tax-
payer-funded public H.S. programs in other states]) can play for
Midget teams, too: the Midget season here is scheduled to end after
the last weekend in November and to start up again after about the
first week of March, while the H.S. season comes in between.
