CCHA PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK: Michigan State University junior goaltender Mike
Gilmore has been named CCHA Player-of-the-Week for the week of January 4-6.
Gilmore, a 5-10, 175 lb. native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, made 21 saves
Friday while recording his second shutout of the season in a 5-0 win against
Ohio State. Gilmore stopped 22 shots in Saturday's 3-1 victory, allowing the
lone goal with just four seconds left in the third period. He currently leads
the CCHA in goals-against average in both league (2.25) and overall (2.27)
play. For the weekend, Gilmore stopped 43 of 44 shots (.977 save percentage).
Gilmore was a June 1990 supplemental draft selection of the New York Rangers.
This is the first time in his collegiate career Gilmore has been named CCHA
Player-Of-The-Week.

Coaches: LSSU - Jeff Jackson (18-3-3 in his first season). BGSU - Jerry York
(292-177-23 in 12 years at BGSU, 417-264-26 overall in 19 years). Series:
The Falcons have a 44-32-3 lead, but the Lakers are 5-2 in the last seven
meetings. Last Meeting: Oct. 12-12 at LSSU, the Lakers won twice, 3-1 and
10-2, Jeff Napierala (3), Tim Breslin (2), Clayton Beddoes (2) and Doug Weight
(2) all had a multiple-goal weekend. Last Meeting at BGSU: Nov. 17-18, 1989,
the Lakers won 5-3 Friday, while the Falcons won 4-3 Saturday.
UIC at Ferris State, January 11-12 at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena (2,573).
Coaches: UIC - Larry Pedrie (6-15-1 in his first season). FSU - Bob Mancini
(14-5-5 in his first year). Series: The Flames narrowly lead 23-21-2. UIC
has the edge in the last 10 meetings (5-4-1). Last Meeting: Dec. 7-8 at UIC,
FSU won both games, 2-0 and 4-3, with Marc Felicio earning his first career
shutout in the Friday contest. Last Meeting at FSU: Nov. 17-18, 1989, the
Bulldogs won 5-3 Friday, while UIC won 3-1 Saturday. Darryl Noren had five of
the six Flame goals.
Miami at Michigan, January 11-12 at Michigan's Yost Arena (8,100). Saturday's
game will be taped by PASS for airing on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Coaches: MIAMI
- George Gwozdecky (16-40-7 in two years at Miami, 83-70-9 overall in five
years). MICHIGAN - Red Berenson (123-128-15 in his seventh year). Series:
The Wolverines lead 26-7-1 and are 5-0-1 in the last six meetings. Last
Meeting: Oct. 12-13 at Miami, with Michigan sweeping by scores of 11-1 and
9-3. Denny Felsner had four goals in the series. Last Meeting at MICHIGAN:
Feb. 23-24, the Wolverines won twice, 6-2 and 7-5, to close out the 1989-90
regular season.
Western Michigan at Ohio State, January 11-12 at OSU's Ice Rink (1,410).
Coaches: WMU - Bill Wilkinson (171-163-20 in nine years). OSU - Jerry Welsh
(295-275-41 in 16 years). Series: The Buckeyes hold a slim 31-29-3 lead.
The Broncos are 7-1-0 in the last eight meetings. Last Meeting: Nov. 16-17
at WMU, the Broncos swept, 4-2 and 3-1, as Craig Brown recorded both wins for
WMU making 52 saves on the weekend. Last Meeting at OSU: Nov. 10-11, 1989,
WMU skated to a pair of victories, 7-4 and 7-6. Eddie Choi had five goals in
the series for the Buckeyes.
Michigan State is off until January 11th after playing in two Christmas
tournaments. The Spartans under the guidance of Ron Mason (332-150-20 in 12
years at MSU, 621-260-34 in 25 years overall) will play a two-game set in Lake
Superior next weekend.

NOTES
Youngest NCAA teams in CCHA: The Michigan Wolverines are the youngest team in
NCAA Division I College Hockey with an average age of 19.6. Michigan State
University is second with an average age of 19.7.
CCHA has impressive non-conference record: Including Miami's first game at
Maine, CCHA teams have compiled a 23-14-1 (.618) mark against non-league foes.
The CCHA is 4-4-1 vs. WCHA, 6-8-0 vs. Hockey East, 2-2-0 vs. ECAC, 8-0-0 vs.
Division I Independents, and 3-0-0 vs. Canadian schools.

Judson reaches 100 points: UIC junior left wing Rick Judson had two goals
this weekend to give him a career total of 100 points (48-52) in 102 games.
He is currently 10th on the Flames' all-time scoring list.
Dowd now 29th on NCAA scoring chart: Jim Dowd, Lake Superior senior center,
had one goal and three assists this past weekend to raise his career point
total to 244 points (80-164) to place him 29th on the NCAA all-time list.
Lakers prove they are number one: Lake Superior State University has compiled a
9-0-1 mark in their last 10 games including a 4-0-1 record against Top Ten
teams (Michigan, Cornell and Ferris State).
Broncos record first sweep of BG in five years: Western Michigan's 4-2 back-
to-back wins against Bowling Green gave the Broncos their first sweep of the
Falcons since the 1985-86 season. Junior Scott Garrow had both game-winners,
his first GWG since he had two his freshman year.
Heaphy now 8th on MSU goal list: Spartan' senior Shawn Heaphy had two goals
Saturday to raise his career total to 96 placing him in a tie-for-eighth place
on MSU charts with Daryl Rice ('72-76).
Redskin goalies share the duties: In the last nine Miami games, the starting
goalie has finished the contest just once.
Woolley's point streak at 17 games: MSU junior defenseman Jason Woolley has a
17-game point streak, which is a Spartan record for blueliners. He has a
point in all but two Michigan State games this season.
