I normally just read this newsgroup, but after attending last week's Union
game, I feel it's time to ask some questions.
I attended the game with a couple friends. During the national anthems, some
of the Union fans yelled some things directed at RPI. I did not understand
what they were saying, but they were obviously not pleasant.
I felt very offended, as did my friends, that anyone would yell anything
during the national anthems. To me, this is a time when fans should pay
respects to their country and should put their rivalries aside. Last year, I
listened to the game on the radio, and heard the Unions fans yelling things
such as, "RPI sucks." Of course, this is the best time to be heard, because
the arena is quiet.
I know of only one other school which yells anything during an anthem-
Cornell yells the word RED during the Star Spangled Banner. Although I do not
particularly like this either, but at least it's not derogatory.
Do any other schools yell anything during the national anthems and how do all
you out there feel about doing such things?
