NOTES
CCHA Playoff champions times two: Lake Superior has won the last two CCHA
playoff titles becoming just the fifth team to win back-to-back playoff crowns.
The others are St. Louis (1974-75-76), Bowling Green (1977-78-79), Northern
Michigan (1980-81) and Michigan State (1982-83-84-85, 1989-90).
Madeley ties another CCHA record: In garnering both wins this past weekend,
LSSU goaltender Darrin Madeley has now won 11 CCHA playoff games tying the
mark set by Norm Foster and Jason Muzzatti (both of Michigan State). Madeley
is the ninth goalie to be selected MVP of the CCHA playoffs.
Michigan hoping to keep CCHA streak alive: The Michigan Wolverines are hoping
the tradition that CCHA teams that win national titles did not win the CCHA
playoffs. In 1984 Bowling Green finished fourth in the CCHA Championships,
and in 1986 Michigan State lost to Western Michigan 3-1 in the CCHA title
game. Lake Superior was defeated by Bowling Green 5-3 in the 1988 CCHA
Championship game. BGSU (Lake Placid), Michigan State (Providence) and Lake
Superior (Lake Placid) all won their national championships in the East.
