UMASS DARTMOUTH EDGES CURRY, 2-1

MILTON, MA–The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team’s five-game losing streak to defending Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference champion Curry came to an end Saturday.

Freshman goaltender Jon Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, MA/Springfield Jr. Falcons)  made 45 saves and the Corsairs edged the Colonels, 2-1, in an ECAC Northeast game at the Max D. Ulin Rink.

Junior forward Kyle McCullough (Danvers, MA/Boston Jr. Blackhawks) and sophomore forward Paul Garabedian (Belmont, MA/Belmont HS) scored UMD’s goals. 

McCullough’s shorthanded goal, assisted by sophomore forward Jeff Grant (Burlington, MA/Austin Prep) and freshman forward Francis Gunn (Winthrop, MA/Berkshire Academy), gave UMass Dartmouth a 1-0 lead at 13:51 of the first period. Garabedian scored three minutes into the second period to make it 2-0. Senior forwards Mike McPherson (Chelsea, MA/Brewster Academy) and P.J. Lovett (North Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS) assisted.

Bret Adams made it 2-1 five minutes and 48 seconds into the second period. Jeremy Hmura assisted.

The Colonels out shot UMass Dartmouth, 45-15. Curry goaltender Lenny Mosca made 13 saves.

UMD improved to 4-3-0, 3-1-0 in ECAC Northeast action with the defeat, while Curry improved to 5-3-0 overall and 5-1-0 in conference play. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Tufts next Wednesday evening.
