Not only does LSSU lack exclusive rights to the moniker Lakers within
college hockey, they are not the only member of the Michigan state
university system to use that nickname.  Grand Valley State University in
Allendale, MI is also called the Lakers.

And to follow Tom's point, how many schools in D-1 hockey are called
Wildcats, Huskies (2 in 1 conference), Bulldogs, or Tigers?  Unless your
mascot is a banana slug or a horned frog it's out there for the taking.

Oh, lets get real here .  That would mean either Missouri or LSU would have
to give being called the Tigers.  Team names are not that proprietary.
