New Hampshire ups record to 5-0 with back-to-back wins at Quinnipiac
(Download Release in PDF Format)

Slowly but surely, the women's ice hockey season is taking shape, and the
new Women's Hockey East Association is a big part of the show.

The University of Maine became the final member of Hockey East to get its
season underway when it played two games at Vermont this past weekend. The
Black Bears allowed just one goal and scored four, two by sniper Karen
Droog, en route to an opening-game victory. The team then one-upped itself
with a 4-0 shutout win in the rematch with Meagan Aarts providing the direct
offensive pressure in this one with her two scores. Combined with her two
assists in Friday's win, Aarts' contributions merited her selection as
Player of the Week. Goaltender Lara Smart made 20 saves and was credited
with the shutout.

New Hampshire nudged itself forward once again, posting a sweep at
Quinnipiac. Friday's 5-3 final was nothing compared to the 10-0 score in
Saturday's rematch. Defenseman Kristen Thomas dominated with five assists
and a +7 rating on the weekend. The Wildcats are now 5-0 and host Maine next
week in the first conference action for both squads. Providence and Boston
College will open Women's Hockey East play Friday night at Conte Forum.

Providence got two third period goals to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 2-2 tie
Saturday vs. seventh-ranked St. Lawrence. The Saints took a measure of
revenge Sunday, however, edging Northeastern by a 2-1 final. NU's Chanda
Gunn had 37 saves in the loss.

Boston College became the first women's team to visit North Dakota's
$100-million Englestad Arena and split the weekend series against the Sioux.
