simple math:
(18,064 available seats) - (17,092 requests) = 972 extra seats

fuzzy math:
(18,064 available seats) - (17,092 requests) = 7,000 applications denied

Even though each of those 11,000 requests were accompanied by ADVANCE
PAYMENT IN FULL they still chose to deny 7,000 applications.

I understand and agree with the idea of reserving a large number of seats
for participating schools, for "friends" of the NC$$, and corporate
bigwigs. But 8,000 tickets held for distribution for other channels?

The worst part is that each of the four schools' allocation will wind up
being at most 700-800 tickets.

I also wonder how many "priority applications" were turned down. I know
about a dozen people on this list that were turned down, all of whom with
priority letters on their applications.

And why weren't any of those 1,000 standing room tickets offered to those
whose applications were unsuccessful?
