GOODWIN, KELLY, ROBINSON, WOOD, ZINGONI TO ATTEND PROVIDENCE COLLEGE
TOTAL OF NINE NEW PLAYERS ON 2000-01 HOCKEY ROSTER

        PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College hockey coach Paul Pooley today
announced that student-athletes Jonathan Goodwin (Taunton, Mass.), Regan
Kelly (Imperial, Saskatchewan), Mike Robinson (Biggar, Saskatchewan),
Stephen Wood (Sudbury, Mass.) and Peter Zingoni (Newtown, Conn.) will
attend Providence College beginning in September 2000.  These five join
Cody Loughlean (Innisfail, Alberta), John Luszcz (Ludlow, Mass.), Jason
Platt (Portola Valley, Calif.), and Dominic Torretti (Ludlow, Mass.) for a
total of nine new players on the 2000-01 hockey roster.
        Goodwin, a 5-foot-10-inch, 195-pound forward, was the leading scorer this
season at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Mass.  In 21
games, he tallied 25 goals and notched 19 assists.  For his efforts,
Goodwin earned Boston Globe All-Scholastic honors and Boston Herald Dream
Team accolades.  He also earned the John Carlton Memorial Award presented
by the Boston Bruins to the top student-athlete in the Eastern
Massachusetts hockey community in 1999-00.  Goodwin, who will graduate from
Catholic Memorial this spring, is the son of Thomas and Barbara Goodwin.
         Kelly, a 6-foot-2-inch, 195-pound defenseman finished his second season
with the Nipawin Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.  A
two-time SJHL All-Star, Kelly registered 30 points (eight goals, 22
assists) in 47 games for Nipawin.  This season, he was a member of Team
SJHL at the prestigious Viking Cup Tournament and was named Nipawin's "Best
Defenseman."  In 1998-99, Kelly earned SJHL All-Rookie Team honors.  Kelly,
a graduate of the Imperial School, is the son of David and Shirley Kelly.
        Robinson, a 5-foot-9-inch, 170-pound forward, played two seasons for the
North Battleford North Stars of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.  He
tallied 21 goals and 37 assists in 69 games this season while helping North
Battleford capture the SJHL Playoffs.  Robinson earned SJHL All-Star honors
in 1999-00.  He is a graduate of Biggar Composite High School.  Robinson is
the son of Gary and Colleen Robinson.
        Wood, a 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound defenseman, was the second leading scorer
and the captain this season at Lawrence Academy.  He registered five goals
and 30 assists in 28 games.  For his efforts, Wood was named All-NEPSIHA
First Team East Defenseman and All-ISL First Team Defenseman.  Wood, who
will graduate from Lawrence Academy this spring, is the son of Robert and
Cheryl Wood.  His brother, Doug, played hockey for four years at Boston
University (1992-96).
        Zingoni, a 6-foot, 180-pound forward, finished his second season with the
New England Coyotes of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.  He was second on
the team in goals (40) and was third on the team in scoring (79 points).
Zingoni, a two-time EJHL All-Star, helped the Coyotes capture the EJHL
Playoffs.  Prior to playing for the Coyotes, he played three seasons for
Notre Dame High School.  Zingoni is the son of Ronald and Patricia Zingoni.

        “This recruiting class will have a tremendous impact on our program for
the next four years," Pooley said.  "They bring all the tangible qualities
of speed, skill, and size, as well as, the intangible qualities of
character, desire and perseverance.  Each of these student-athletes will
assist us in moving our program forward.   In addition, each member of this
class is a quality person, who is committed to the ideals of Providence
College.”
