Oates skated like a man possessed on Saturday night... it was a real joy to
see. I don't think it would be premature anymore to say that the
quintafinals against RPI last year were not a fluke. It was also nice to
see Niels Heilmann assisting on both his goals; he has improved a great
deal.
Other Red/White comments:
Of the freshmen, Kozier was the obvious standout to me. He's fast, he's a
good stickhandler, and the Red team's second goal was a direct result of
his standup play coming out of the penalty box to steal the puck. He seems
to have his head together.
As for the question of a goalie controversy, I wouldn't be surprised to see
Matt Underhill get a couple of starts at least early in the season. He's
very quick for a guy his size, and though he let four pucks past him, he
also stopped 25, and 86% is pretty respectable. But Ian Burt showed some
great stuff, too, stopping over 93% for the win, and Matt may have an
uphill battle. We never got to see the third, walk-on goalie, but he was
mostly just there in case of an injury.
And in twelve seasons of Cornell hockey, this was the first time I'd won
anything from a raffle. :-{)}
