Gophers sophomore hockey player Erik Westrum will leave Thursday for
Phoenix, where he'll pay his own expenses to participate in rookie camp
with the NHL Coyotes, who own his rights, until his University of
Minnesota classes begin in a few weeks.
University of North Dakota hockey coach Dean Blais recently discussed a
Sioux assistant coaching job with former Gophers player and assistant
coach Bill Butters, but Butters will continue with his Christian Hockey
Ministries work
Ben Clymer's NHL rights holder, the Boston Bruins, have until Dec. 31 to
sign the former Gopher, 20, who has departed for the Seattle
Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. If the Bruins don't sign him
by the end of the year, they lose his rights.
