Ferris State has added 3 recruits for a total of 7 forwards and one
defenseman. Signing up with the Bulldogs were RW Jason Hodel (Regina,
Sask.), center Todd Steinmetz (South Range, Mich.) and left wing Casey
Harris (Carmel, Ind.). These are considered tough, physical players who
will help Ferris immensely. Hodel had 14 goals and 24 assists in the
SJHL last year and was a team captain for Canada's AAA Midget champions
earlier in his career. Steinmetz, from the U.P. Copper Country, played
at Waterloo and Sioux City last year with 23 goals and 28 assists in 46
regular season games. His 18 power play goals will help Ferris in the
CCHA. Harris played for Wexford in the Metro Toronto League and is good
in traffic. His father, Hugh, played for Buffalo of the NHL in 1972-73.
These three recruits join previous signees -- defenseman Mike Maas (Big
Rapids, Mich.), RW Geoff Bennetts (Wixom, Mich.), LW Kenzie Homer (Grand
Marais, Manitoba), RW Joel Irwin (Kamloops, B.C.) and forward Mike
Olaski (Saskatoon, Sask.). . .Also, while I'm at it, will someone please
tell the referees if they are going to enforce the new interpretation of
unsportsman conduct, to please penalize guys who cross check someone
after he has scored a goal. This has been called once in our favor in
15 years.
