I saw MTU's band at the WCHA Final Five last year and must say you
did have a lot of fun.  What was that march you play for power plays?  it
was very effective.  I am curious about this traveling rule.  Minnesota
usually send down it's cheerleaders (not this year though) to the Wisconsin
game.  They usually don't do anything because our fans wouldn't be very
nice.  What is the point of hockey cheerleaders, anyway?  Let them stick to
the ice capades.  The Wisconsin Varsity Band is traveling to the away game
against Duluth on the 19th.  It is in Milwaukee, it is a "home game" for
Duluth.
        It is hard to rate pep bands, especially ones that just form for
hockey and ones that come from big time college marching bands.  I have
seen Minnesota (not very good), Maine (not very loud and they played "On
Wisconsin" and "You've Said It All" to get Wisconsin fans rooting for them,
don't do that!), LSSU (had a good tuba player), BU (Where's Waldo?), New
Hampshire (smelled like fish :-} ), and MTU (nice slippers!).  I must say
the fans in Albany where really nice to us last year.  The band got a big
round of applause after our last song there.  I never saw that for a hockey
band before.
        The Wisconsin Varsity Band does a lot of cheers directed at the
away team.  This year they moved us from the glass to the nose bleed seats
behind the goal, this makes it real hard to be an intimidation factor.  I
remember SCSU players trying to climb over the glass after scoring a goal
against us.  They must of thought are comments about them were inconsistent
with their play :-}.  We are also not sitting by the student section now.
I think our new seats have destroyed the affect the band has on the game.
We don't get payed and most of us really care about the game.  Now, if we
can get them to quit scheduling basketball and hockey at the same time.
