According to UMass-Lowell's Athletic Director, Dr. Wayne Edwards, the fine
print needs to be added, but the Governors Cup tournament is virtually a
done deal and will begin in the autumn of 1995.
UMass-Amherst elected not to participate, so UMass-Lowell, New Hampshire,
Main, and Vermont will be the permanent teams in what the schools hope
will become the Backwards Beanpot. The four teams will alternate as host
of the tournament, which should become a key recruiting tool against the
Boston-based teams that use the Beanpot so well to their advantage.
[I've heard that this tourney will take place around Thanksgiving time.
Can anyone out there confirm/dispell this rumour? - Steve]
