Hi -
Even though (as most of you already know :-) I bleed Blue/White for my
beloved UNH Wildcats, soon after moving here to Maryland in the mid-'80s
I sort of "adopted" the Princeton Tigers as my second favorite team, as
they're the closest DivI program to my home. I've usually been able to
attend 3-4 games per year as my schedule permits, and the Tigers resur-
gence - both on the ice and in fan support - in recent years has been very
gratifying to watch. Brendan Morrison, Chris Drury, Jason Krog, etc. may
have gotten most of the accolades/awards these past several years, but
Princeton's own Jeff Halpern was - without question - a Player of major
skill/talent for the Tigers as well. He grew up in the suburbs of Wash-
ington rooting for the NHL Capitals (his parents have been season ticket
holders since the team's inception in 1974), and idolized ex-UNH standout
Rod Langway. And now he's a Capitals draft choice - fighting for a roster
spot in this, his first NHL training camp, on the team whose posters
covered his bedroom walls since he was 6 years old ....
The Washington "Post" has a terrific story in today's editions about
Jeff and his quest to join the team of his childhood dreams. Surf in here
for a look, and cross your fingers with the rest of us in the DC area who
are rooting hard for the hometown hero:
