From the information gleaned from the numerous postings pertaining to the Tory
eligibility issue it appears that I can only conclude that the Maine coaching
staff was aware of a conflict involving interpretation of eligibility rules.
One interpretation arrived at independently by at least two other programs and
shared with the Maine staff suggested Tory would not have freshman eligibility
. The Maine staff felt there was another interpretation which would allow a di
fferent conclusion. It would be incumbent upon them to clearly present these t
wo interpretations to the NCAA for a definitive ruling. It is not appropriate
do anything other. It they were as concerned about their student-athletes' aca
demic progress as they profess, they would not want to subject a clearly border
line student to the rigors and travel of a varsity sport during their first yea
r in school. I'll end with this note. How many times have you exceeded the sp
eed limit? How many times have you been caught? LGF
