Johanna Wise writes...

I've attempted to avoid the H-L "hot topics" because there is always someone
who expresses a viewpoint similar to my own, so my jumping in adds nothing
new. But I do want to address two things Johanna said.

 1. The logical course of action appears as if it is being implemented.
Let's look at the player in question and make a final determination of his
eligibility status. *IF* he is determined to be ineligible, Maine will
undergo the appropriate consequences (probably forfeiture of games in which
the player appeared). *IF*, during the course of the investigation, there
is evidence of any improprieties on the part of Walsh or the Maine staff
(and I seriously doubt that there were), it can be dealt with then. As far
as I'm concerned, Shawn Walsh has committed no crime and I will retain that
opinion until someone proves otherwise. It sounds as if he may have set
himself up to look bad, but that isn't a crime as far as I know. So, I
agree with Johanna, calling for Walsh's head is definitely inappropriate.
Personally, I'm not fond of Walsh, but it's not fair/just to come down on
him based on the hodge-podge of fact and speculation that we (H-L) currently
have. (I've been guilty of this myself. Just ask any Wisconsin fan about
April of '92.)

 2. Now for my disagreement. Johanna's last sentence was not necessary.
Sure, there are sore losers, but there are also sore winners.
