OK, I'll bite.

Rather than correct mistakes in the article above (written by Sid
Hartman from the Star Tribune), I'll question it. Carol and I have
discussed the upcoming Big Ten Tournament, and have discovered that
the information distributed in Minnesota is quite a bit different
than what I hear in Michigan.

Doug Hill (The Ann Arbor News) has reported that the tournament will
not be called the Big Ten Tournament but rather the CCHA-WCHA Challenge.
In fact, the competition will not be the standard "tournament" style.
Michigan and Michigan State will represent the CCHA, Minnesota and
Wisconsin the WCHA. Michigan will play Minnesota one night and Wisconsin
the next, etc., therefore each individual game would pit the CCHA against
the WCHA.

NEWS FLASH -- Since typing the last paragraph, I spoke with the Michigan
Hockey Office and the current status is uncertain. The coaches are
leaning toward the Challenge scenario, primarily to guard against the
possibility of the two travel teams facing each other. Michigan would
not want to travel to St Paul to face MSU -- nor would the Badgers and
Gophers care to come to Detroit to play each other. The person I spoke
to also said that they're considering a multi-site option. I.e., on
the first night, one WCHA team would face Michigan in Ann Arbor and the
other would play State in East Lansing. On the second night, all four
teams would play at The Palace or Joe Louis. Very interesting. I'd
love to see the campus site game, but it would mean missing the other
campus site game.

The bottom line is, nothing is set in stone. If I hear anything
conclusive, I'll pass it on.
