Notre Dame scored 3 first period goals and then hung on the win its second CCHA
contest against Ohio State at the Ice Rink in Columbus. Notre Dame won this
game fairly as they outworked and outhustled the Buckeyes for all but the last
5 minutes of the game. Judging from the number of chances OSU had in those
last five minutes, this game was very winnable had they worked hard for 60
minutes, but they seemed a little lethargic all night.

Apparently, Jerry Welsh told them late this week that if they (Ohio State) did
not sweep the weekend, the players would have to stay in Columbus until Monday,
because there would be a practice Monday morning. The original plan was that
the players could go home for break on Sunday. Apparently, this only made the
players mad instead of motivating them, and they did not look motivated
tonight. Jerry Welsh...master of psychology. Sigh.

Anyway, OSU made the score 5-4 with 30 seconds remaining, but were never able
to get the puck in the ND zone in the final 30 seconds, and the Irish head to
Bowling Green with thoughts of a sweep.
