Providence hockey SWEEP WEEKEND SERIES WITH BC;
fRIARS DEFEAT EAGLES, 5-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Providence College men's hockey team defeated
Boston College, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon, January 27 at BC's Kelley Rink in
a HOCKEY EAST league game. With the win, the Friars win the regular-season
series with BC for the first time since PC won the series in the 1995-96
season with a pair of victories at Kelley Rink. The win also brought the
Friars' record to the .500 mark for the first time all season.
Boston College scored the game's first goal, as the Eagle's Tony Voce fired
a shot from the right side of the goal of a Providence defenseman and past
the Friars' Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.). PC evened the contest two
minutes later when junior co-captain Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.) converted
a feed from senior Drew Omicioli (West Warwick, R.I.) for his 11th goal of
the season.
PC sophomore forward Peter Zingoni (Newtown, Conn.) put the Friars ahead,
2-1, at 11:31 when he scored from in front of the goal on a feed from junior
co-captain Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.). Providence increases its
lead when Omicioli scored on the power play, to put the Friars up, 3-1, with
8:45 to play. Omicioli redirected a feed from sophomore defenseman Regan
Kelly (Imperial, Sask.).
Omicioli registered his third point of the contest with 5:36 remaining in
the second period, firing a slap shot past BC's Tim Kelleher for his 13th
goal of the season. Freshmen Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Eric
Lundberg (Vernon, Conn.) assisted on the goal for the Friars.
The Eagles cut the Providence lead in half eight minutes into the third
period when Voce scored his second of the game with assists going to Jeff
Giuliano and AJ Walker. The Friars added the game's final goal when Kelly
scored an empty-net goal from Fregoe and Rask.
Schaefer made 31 saves in the win while Kelleher recorded 23 saves.
The Friars return to action on Friday, February 1st when they travel to
Northeastern University for a 7:00 p.m. HOCKEY EAST contest.
