MEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO DARTMOUTH
Big Green score three third period goals in 4-2 win

The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team allowed three third period goals and fell to Dartmouth, 4-2, in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) contest this evening at the Houston Field House in Troy, NY. The Engineers are now 9-10-3 overall and 3-7-2 in the league while the Big Green are 9-8-3 overall and 6-4-3 in the ECAC.

RPI jumped out to an early lead when junior Marc Cavosie scored on a backhanded shot while getting hooked down. Cavosie, the ECAC's leading scorer, held off the defender and beat Nick Boucher for his 14 th goal of the season. With the goal, which came after RPI netminder Nathan Marsters made a dazzling save on a Dartmouth two-on-one, Cavosie extended his point-scoring streak to eight games (5 goals, 8 assists). Matt Murley assisted on the play and now has six goals and five assists in his last four games.

The Big Green tied the score at 6:51 of the first period when senior Chris Baldwin took control of the puck at mid-ice with Dartmouth playing shorthanded. Baldwin led a two-on-one down the ice, eventually scoring on a rebound of a Jamie Herrington shot for his ninth goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, Rensselaer pulled ahead, 2-1, on a long backhander from senior co-captain Steve Munn midway through the third period. Cavosie and Murley earned the assists on the go-ahead goal. The Big Green fought back to tie the score when junior Kent Gillings slid a rebound of his own shot under Marsters and into the goal at the 16:34 mark. For Gillings, who was set up by Mike Wheelihan and Mike Murray, the goal was his sixth of the season. Dartmouth took the lead just 1:02 later when Herrington chipped a Lee Stempniak pass over Marsters. Wheelihan also earned an assist, his second of the game and fifth of the year. Herrington then tallied an unassisted goal with 15 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Rensselaer and Dartmouth, which snapped a 12-game losing streak at the Houston Field House, will meet again next Friday night in Hanover, NH, at 7pm. The Engineers will then play at Vermont on Saturday (7pm) while the Big Green will host Union the same night (7pm).
