Kathy, one extreme example is Michigan, currently in at least the 12th straight
year of going with one goalie for four years straight, which enabled Steve
Shields to set the NCAA record for most career victories, after which Marty
Turco immediately broke it. Josh Blackburn is in no position to break it again,
but he has a good shot at setting a new school record for career shutouts.

On the other hand, I remember a Michigan Tech team where two guys shared the
goalie duties equally one year, won the NCAA championship, and ended the season
in a dead tie for the best goals-against average in the NCAA. One guy was named
Tony Esposito and, in his first season with Chicago, he was selected Rookie of
the Year, won the goalkeepers' Vezina Trophy, was selected to the All-Star First
Team, and set the current NHL single-season record for most shutouts. The other
guy was named Rick Best. Ever hear of Rick Best?

On December 5, 1968, Tony Esposito made his debut National Hockey League
appearance with the Montreal Canadians. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. The
only Boston Bruin who managed to score on him was his brother Phil.
