I would point out that this is where the discussions that so irritate many of
the people on the list go in the wrong direction.  I will reply, in order:
 
1) It doesn't necessarily require equal numbers.  There are other measures as
well.
 
2) I am, in fact, familiar with the basic principles of economics, and many of
those of business (it should be pointed out that these are not the same thing,
and the two disciplines tend to drive each other crazy).
 
3) Football would probably be out of the equation if *they* were willing to
treat themselves as a business.  The handwringers are only treating the football
barons as they have asked to be treated: as partners in an educational
institution, rather than as the operators of business trying to maximize its
revenue.
