The problem a lot of people on this list have with this notion is that
mediocre teams will be listed in this poll consistently. Do we want to
tell the world that a team like Wisconsin this year is a "Top 25 team" just
to somehow draw new fans?? What will these fans see?? A team that is
struggling for home ice in the WCHA and has a record around .500. I know
absolutely nothing about lacrosse, but I'd be willing to bet there is a
pretty worthless team, listed for all to see, if they have a top 25 and
only 50 teams. This notion holds true to all college sports. What you're
asking for is similar to saying we should have a top 50 in D-1 football
(roughly 106 teams) and a top 100 in D-1 basketball (over 200 teams), which
is rediculous. Some of the top 25 teams in basketball have been mediocre
(Minnesota and Purdue for sure, based on this week's games), what would the
top 100 look like?
