According to USAToday online:
 
Mercyhurst College will add women's ice hockey to its athletic program in
the fall of 1999.  The team will play at the Division I level and hopes to
begin the program in time for next season.  Mercyhurst will seek
membership in the ECAC DI Women's league.
 
The total number of women's varsity teams for 1999-2000 is now at 50.
