CCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bryan Smolinski, a junior center from Michigan State
University, has been selected CCHA Player of the Week for the week ending
February 2, 1992.
Smolinski, a 6-1, 200-pound native of Genoa, Ohio, had five goals and one
assist for six points in the Spartans split at UIC. In Friday's 6-3 Michigan
State victory, Smolinski scored three goals including two shorthanded along
with the game-winning goal on a power play. He added an assist on the first
MSU goal to go along with his first hat trick of the season. MSU lost 6-3 on
Saturday, despite two power play goals by Smolinski.
Smolinski was a June 1990 first round selection of the Boston Bruins (#21
overall). After scoring just nine goals and 21 points last year, Smolinski
has 20 goals and 24 assists in 26 games with nine power play goals and three
shorthanded tallies this season.
