CC continues their undefeated record at home this season, getting a 4-2
victory over UMass-Amherst tonight in the first ever meeting between these
two teams. The excitement came in spurts tonight, most of it in the last 3
minutes of the game.

The Tigers got on the board first about 7 minutes into the first period,
capitalizing on a power play resulting from too many men on the ice for
the Minutemen, as Jon Austin got his 5th of the season. 2 minutes later
freshman Jesse Heerema made it 2-0.

The second period wasn't all that exciting. CC outshot Amherst 12-5, and
there were only 2 penalties called. No goals scored.

The Tigers had 4 power plays in the third period. Heerema got his second
goal of the night on the third one, about 14 minutes into the period. On
the fourth power play for CC, things started to get interesting. Ray
Geever got a breakaway halfway in to break the shutout on a short-handed
goal. Then 2 minutes later Nathan Sell closed the gap to only a 3-2 CC
lead. We watched to see if the goalie would leave the ice, with only 42
seconds left, but CC kept the puck in the zone and Brian Swanson capped
off the scoring 15 seconds later for a 4-2 final.

Brian Swanson now has 26 points for the season, after collecting 8 this
weekend, and may have taken the national scoring lead. Next weekend the
Tigers host St. Cloud State, who were swept at home by North Dakota this
weekend.
