I thought it might be worth rehashing my old 'College goalies in the pros'
register in light of recent discussions about Jim Carey and western vs.
eastern goalies. As you can see, the WCHA dominates at the NHL level. Note,
however, that the totals change if you consider the NHL plus the AHL and
IHL. The ECAC takes over w/14, followed by the CCHA w/12, WCHA W/11 and
HE w/7.

It should be pointed out that the HE is the smallest of the four
conferences and also includes one school, UMass, that didn't
have a varsity hockey program for a long period of time. I'll let a math
major figure out whether there is any statistical significance where
conference size is concerned. I would also point out that among minor
leaguers, Dunham, Snow, Roloson, Shields, Ram, Rogles, and Soucy are the
only legitimate prospects - 3 HE, 2 ECAC, 1 CCHA, and 1 WCHA. A few
others could develop into prospects - Little, Israel, Shulmistra, Gordon.
Most of the rest are minor league vets who will enjoy the occasional cup of
coffee.

BTW, all of these players have played at least one game at the level
for which they are listed. The list is based on The Hockey News, 4/7/95.
There are no covenants or warranties, express or implied, as to the
completeness of the list. E-mail me privately if I've excluded someone
or made an error. 'Prospects' are determined by the subjective assessment
of the author and do not reflect the opinions of the NHL, AHL, IHL or
any employee thereof. All comments regarding who is and is not a prospect
should be directed to SIEVE-L, BAND-L or ESPN-L.
