Tonight, Heather and I attended the annual Hockey East Banquet, held
at the Marriott Copley in Boston.

Master of Ceremonies was NESN color man Bob Norton. Among the folks
in the audience Norton introduced was BU goalie J.P. McKersie, who got
a round of applause from those in attendance. This was nice to see.

After dinner and some opening remarks from HE Commissioner Bob
DeGregorio and HE Director of Marketing/Media Relations Tim Burton, it
was time to hand out the league's awards. This is all from memory.

Bernie Corbett, play-by-play radio announcer for BU, introduced the HE
All-League Team. Members were as follows. There was no distinction
made between first and second team, but this may have been listed in the
press release given out earlier in the day (which I will get Friday
night at the Garden).

G Blair Allison, Maine
G Martin Legault, Merrimack
D Chris Imes, Maine
D Jeff Tory, Maine
D Dan McGillis, Northeastern
D Kaj Linna, BU
F Greg Bullock, UMass-Lowell
F Chad Quenneville, Providence
F Mike Grier, BU
F Chris O'Sullivan, BU
F Jordon Shields, Northeastern
F Eric Flinton, UNH

The All-Rookie Team was introduced by Rob Rudnick, play-by-play
announcer for Northeastern radio.

G Brian Regan, UMass-Amherst
D Jeff Tory, Maine
D Chris Kelleher, BU
F Mark Mowers, UNH
F Shawn Wansborough, Maine
F Casey Kesselring, Merrimack

Commissioner DeGregorio presented the Team Sportsmanship Award to UNH,
and it was accepted by head coach Dick Umile and D Kent Schmidtke. The
award is a banner that the team displays in its rink.

The Len Ceglarski Award for Individual Sportsmanship was presented by
former BC coach Len Ceglarski to BU F Steve Thornton.

The Bob Kullen CCM Coach of the Year Award was presented by Cathy
Kullen-Leach, wife of the late UNH coach after whom the award is
named, and Mike Jaques, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for CCM.
The winner was Maine head coach Shawn Walsh.

Dick Osborne, play-by-play radio announcer for UNH, presented the
Rookie of the Year Award to UNH F Mark Mowers.

Shawn Walsh presented the Player of the Year Award to Maine D Chris
Imes.

Greg Bullock was also given an award for being the league scoring
champion, while Blair Allison received an award as the league's top
goaltender (lowest GAA).

The event was filmed by NESN, which also showed a very nice highlight
tape at the proceedings. Watch for the tape or portions of it to be
shown this weekend during NESN's coverage of the HE semifinals and
championship game.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the championships this weekend.
The championship game Saturday night will be the last college hockey
game ever played in the Boston Garden.

I will be working the tournament for HE, doing the shot chart for at
least one game each night beginning with BU-UML Friday. The schedule
again:

FRIDAY - Semifinals
5:00 Providence vs Maine
8:00 UMass-Lowell vs Boston University
SATURDAY
5:00 Consolation: PC-Maine loser vs UML-BU loser
8:00 Championship: PC-Maine winner vs UML-BU winner
