Greg Ambrose mentioned Penn's ugly uniforms.  Bingo!
 
With a nickname like "Quakers" there's not a whole lot to do visually.
That guy on the oatmeal box just isn't too fierce looking.  Ruling out any
play on Quakers, all you can do is write P-E-N-N in various ways.  If
anyone's member of the '70s Preservation Society, you can imagine what
designers did.  The sweaters were a nice polyester, too.
 
Ugly uniforms must be a tradition at Penn.  Check out our pituitary-ball
team's uniforms next time you catch 'em on TV.  Someone was on drugs.
