Tap-ins can be dismissed if they're not repeatable.  Rausch is not a player
who can consistently provide "garbage goals" in bunches.  Grier is.  Jeff Daw
(of UMass-Lowell) seems to have a similar knack.  In the pros, there are few
better examples than Cam Neely.  These players have been accorded a more lofty
status because their size and strength make them great weapons around the net.
A lot of defensemen in the league can ride Rausch off and prevent him from
getting the garbage goals, but they have a lot more trouble stopping Grier.
 
So when I dismiss Rausch's tournament winner as not being especially
meritorious, that's not to say that players who can consistently deliver the
ugly goals can't be given high acclaim.   The vast majority of forwards in
Div 1 would have finished the tournament winner just as Rausch did.  The vast
majority of forwards can not consistently deliver traffic goals like Grier can.
That's the big difference as I see it.
 
Also, Grier's contributions go far beyond his goal scoring.  His hits are
bonecrushers and he's got very soft hands for a man his size.
 
Only a guy married for 18 years could get sucked into an argument about an
All-Tournament Team for a tournament he saw so little of....  :-)
