Darren Saletta asked about UPenn hockey.  The following is my
recollection as someone who saw them play on a few occasions while at
RPI.  Their original coach was Jim Salfi (an SLU graduate) who later
coached RPI.  I don't recall who coached them after he went to RPI in
'72.  I know that Penn was a club team in 65-66 and then became an
ECAC Div-II team for a year or two.  After that they were a regular
ECAC Div-I team and qualified several times for the ECAC tournament
(at a time when this meant more than today because less than half of
the league made the tourney).  I know that they still played Div-I when
I left RPI in 1974 and for at least a couple of years after.  I don't
recall when they dropped the sport.
