If this is true, it's a great relief. The way our program has been dirtied by
many in the rest of Hockey East (including BU, remember "Maine is a disgrace
to college hockey"?), this comes as great news. No one is perfect, and MAINE
made some mistakes, but who hasn't? I was told by a fellow student one day
that our program might get the death penalty for what happened. Consider what
had to happen to SMU's football program to deserve such a sanction, and to
see other schools get away with probation for far worse (read: UNLV), the
death penalty seems like too much for what happened here. Besides, I'd LOVE
to see what will happen at UMASS-AMHERST if the NCAA starts to look into the
potential eligibility violations in their basketball programs. (This isn't a
top-level administration problem, such as MAINE's was.)
Personally, I don't think one school should bad-mouth another, because it's
only a matter of time before the same thing happens to you. Remember, we
thought we were quite a clean school, until things started here.
