CC rotates goalies, wins again

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Don Lucia has a locker room stocked with top-quality
goalies.

Ryan Bach and Judd Lambert. Picking which one to play on a particular
night is not a problem.

"It's an easy problem, you just rotate them," said Lucia, coach of the
Colorado College hockey team.

It was Lambert's turn Saturday night. He stopped 33 shots, 16 in the
first period, and led the Tigers past the St. Cloud State Huskies, 4-2,
at the National Hockey Center.

How can there be a problem? Lucia has split the goaltending duties
equally between Bach and Lambert. Bach is 4-1; Lambert is 4-1. Both
are sophomores, meaning it will be a while before Lucia worries about
his goalie situation.

"There's no question in our minds that we have the best goaltending tandem
in the country," Lucia said. "I don't think there is a No. 1. We went
into the season saying we were going to rotate them and right now Ryan
plays the first night and Judd plays the second night. I think we'll stick
with that plan."

Bach received most of the playing time last season and led the Tigers to
the Western Collegiate Hockey Association title by posting a 17-7-5 mark.

Lambert is making a strong run at becoming the No. 1 goalie this season.
In five games, he has a 2.2 goals-against average and 92.1 saves percentage.
Bach has a 3.6 goals-against average and 86.4 saves percentage.

By sweeping the weekend series, the Tigers improved to 8-2-0 overall, 7-1-0
in the WCHA.

Ranked No. 3 in some national polls, CC passed Minnesota and moved into sole
possession of second place in the WCHA with 14 points. Wisconsin, which
has played three more league games than CC, is in first place with 15 points.
[this is of course before the second Minn-MTU game - kh]

Thanks to Lambert, the Huskies were kept scoreless through the first two
periods.

Though St. Cloud dominated play in the first period, Lambert made several
brilliant saves and the Tigers skated into intermission with a 1-0 lead.
Defenseman Eric Rud scored the goal, his first of the season.

Goals by Jay McNeill and Jason Gudmundson boosted CC to a 3-0 advantage
through two periods.

McNeill's goal occurred agter the center took a pretty behind-the-back
pass from Chad Remackel. It was McNeill's third goal of the series and
WCHA-leading 11th of the season.

"Offensively, he's one of the go-to guys," Lucia said. "What we're happy
about is Jay was all over the ice tonight. He's become a much more
complete player."
