Skidompha Library in Damariscotta, Maine is seeking a teen services
librarian. Skidompha is a rural library with an active community of patrons
and an established teen services program. We pride ourselves on being a
team of staff members that work well together and encourage innovation. The
ideal candidate will be able to work afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays,
be a positive, constructive, and encouraging presence in the library, and
be comfortable working with a diverse group of teenagers.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone interested in
working in a public library and making a meaningful difference in the lives
of adolescents. The Teen Services Librarian will work primarily with the
Children's Services Librarian and the Executive Director, but also work
collaboratively with all members of the library staff and support all
departments.

Objectives of This Position

   -

   Ensure a safe and welcome environment for teens
   -

   Engage teen patrons with fun and meaningful activities
   -

   Support individual literacy and learning goals of patrons
   -

   Collaborate with other staff members to serve the needs of all patrons
   -

   Maintain and create relationships with local organizations


Responsibilities

   -

   Develop and maintain the diverse and representative young adult
   collection of books and materials
   -

   Plan and execute teen programming, including school year and summer
   reading programs
   -

   Assist with everyday library functions, including circulation tasks and
   assisting patrons
   -

   Work cooperatively with the Communications Director and write weekly
   updates in contribution to the library’s email newsletter
   -

   Maintain the existing Teen Room with attention paid to keeping it neat
   and welcoming.
   -

   Interact with teens on a daily basis in order to create a positive
   atmosphere. This includes making sure teens know about resources and
   programming and ensuring the library is being utilized in a manner that
   supports all patrons.
   -

   Embrace, promote, and include Skidompha's Mission and Value in all
   library activities.
   -

   This position is for 35 hours per week, including Wednesday morning
   staff meeting, Tuesday-Friday from late morning until 6:00pm, and Saturdays
   from 10:00am-2:00pm.


Skills and Qualifications

   -

   Experience working with adolescents
   -

   Bachelor’s degree in library science or related field
   -

   Strong writing skills
   -

   Organized
   -

   Proficiency and comfort with computers MS Suite, Canva, and Google
   Workspace
   -

   Creativity and flexibility


Desired Qualifications

   Experience working in a public library
   -

   Experience working with Minerva/Sierra ILL
   -

   Experience with grant preparation and reporting
   -

   Experience with collection development and cataloging
   -

   Experience with effective communication and engagement with teens
