The Maine State Library (MSL) welcomes Lisa Neal Shaw as the newest MSL Consultant-Specialist to join the MSL Team.
Lisa will support small and rural public libraries that predominately serve communities of 5,000 people or fewer.
Beginning in late September, Lisa will join Jenny Melvin at the MSL's northern office at Bangor Public Library to begin her new role. In this capacity Lisa will:
1. Work with libraries to meet standards by achieving specific benchmarks
2. Help libraries identify community partners and build the level of community engagement with the library
3. Advise small libraries to innovate and meet community needs
4. Help rural librarians to become community leaders
Lisa is currently the director at the Caribou Public Library. She is the Secretary of the Maine Library Association, an active member of the Association of Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL), and a graduate of both the New England Library Leadership Symposium (NELLS) and the Maine Library Leadership Institute (MLLI). Lisa was also a participant on the "Axis of Access" ILEAD-Maine team. Lisa's extensive experiences are enriched from her time at the Mark and Emily Turner Library and her role as a career center consultant with the Maine Department of Labor's Career Center- both in Presque Isle. Lisa's creative and innovative approaches to rural library service in Caribou will serve as a great model for small libraries in Maine.
The Maine State Library looks forward to Lisa's engaging leadership to help people, make libraries stronger and transform information into knowledge as she works to make Maine's smallest and most rural libraries stronger.
