The UIC Flames swept the weekend series against Bowling Green. UIC goaltender
Gary Mangino was hot again and Rick Judson had a hat trick. The first period
was a shootout with 17 shots by BG and 14 by UIC. UIC power play and penalty
killing were questionable, but BG did not score until 10:32 when Dan Bylsma
profited from a pileup around the net to score -- assists to Jeff Wells and
Martin Jiranek who both fired point blank at Mangino. Rick Judson responded
for the Flames at 15:53 (assists to Larry Pilut and Trevor Wallace). Later in
the period Larry Pilut kept the puck in the zone with a desperate dive and
Judson scored again at 18:29. The UIC Flames took control in the second period
as the defense kept BG from mounting an effective attack. In the second
period, the Flames had 8 shots to the Falcons' 6 and the score at the end of
two was still UIC 2, BG 1. At 0:55 of the third period, it was Rick Judson
again -- from the BG zone, Dominic Dunlap found Larry Pilut who skated toward
John Burke from the left side -- Pilut found Judson who had a clear shot to
make it 3-1. At 10:52 Cory Hextall scored for the Flames assisted by Todd
Finner. UIC controlled the third period. Bowling Green skated 6 on 3 from
18:43, but was only able to score at 19:56 -- Brett Harkins from Martin
Jiranek and Ron Klee.

In summary: two solid periods of hockey by UIC plus hot goaltending by Gary
Mangino are fun to watch if you're a Flames fan.
