Notes for 1/03/93:

The holiday tournament and nonconference action produced some
interesting movement in the ratings, especially with some of the
"upsets" that occurred.

Dartmouth and Boston University emerge as the big winners, each
picking up over 0.8 points in the overall ratings. Unfortunately for
the Big Green, they were so far down to start with it was only good
enough to pick up 3 spots, but the Terriers vaulted into the top 5
with a pickup of 7 spots. Ferris State's championship in the
Mariucci Classic was good enough for a gain of 7 spots while Harvard,
Yale, RPI, Bowling Green, Alaska-Fairbanks and Northeastern all
posted gains of 4+ spots.

The biggest loser by far is Alaska-Anchorage, who went 0-3-1 at home
over the holdidays, including a 7-0 whitewashing from none other than
our second-place loser, Minnesota. Anchorage (as in dropping like a
boat anchor) fell 15 spots to #37 and now boasts the worst offense in
the nation. The Gophers meanwhile finished 4th in their own
tournament and weren't helped much by their 7-0 win because Anchorage
fell so badly. Minnesota drops 8 spots to #17 while Michigan Tech's
last place finish in the Great Lakes Invitational was good enough for
a fall of 6 spots to #19. New Hampshire lost to Dartmouth at home
and fell 5 spots as did Denver, which managed only a 1-goal victory
over Army at home and was hurt by the poor performance of other WCHA
teams.

As always, a summary of the CHODR projections for this week's action
will be forthcoming, along with a summary of how CHODR did in
predicting individual games over the holidays.
