Oops, I thought I sent these out already... oh well, better late than never,
I suppose.
With the CHA finishing its tournament last weekend, we have our first
winner in the Pick the Post-season Tournaments Contest #1. Thanks to a
rash of upsets, no one picked the tournament winner (Alabama-Huntsville),
and only a few people picked one of the semifinalists correctly. Three
people tied for first in the CHA with (ahem) 12 points: Jim Dixon, Craig
Powers, and Mark Lewin. Jim takes the title on the first tiebreaker, as
his predicted championship score was two points closer than anyone else's.
Jim Dixon also currently holds the overall lead in Contest #1 with 89
points.
Scoring reminder: Three points were awarded for each correctly
predicted winner in a conference's first round/quarterfinal. An
additional bonus point was given for correctly forecasting the number
of games (2 or 3) a series would go. The bonus point did not apply to
Atlantic Hockey, in which the play-in and each quarterfinal was a single
game, or to the CHA, which had no quarterfinal round.
Scoring for the rest of the contest is as follows: 4 points for
correctly picking the winner of each play-in/finals qualifier game
(applies only to the WCHA and CHA), 8 points for correctly picking
semifinal winners, 4 points for picking the consolation winner (ECAC,
CCHA, and WCHA only), and 16 points for picking the championship game
winner.
Here is the scoring so far, overall and for each conference. Also
included are the scores for the predictions by the USCHO staff (who, it
should be pointed out, didn't have to pick all the games at once) and a
"Higher Seed" entry, showing what would have happened if the higher seed
for each game had been picked to win. Thus, in the "Higher Seed" entry, all
first-round/quarterfinal series get picked as sweeps.
