Well, as you've probably heard, Butch Goring was fired as coach of the
Islanders over the weekend; assistant coach Lorne Henning will take
over on an interim basis. Early in the year, the Isles had some modest
success, and it looked as though the Isles were on track to some real
progress; even now, most of their losses are close, and the games are
competitive. Sooner or later, ownership will come to grips with the fact
that the lone constant in the Islanders (further) demise the last few years
is Mike Milbury, and will make future changes with this fact in mind.
The Isles are at best a mediocre team with a lot of heart, that simply
doesn't know how to win; DiPietro may simply be a lame-duck goalie
until the proper infusion of quality personnel (player and/or
management) is met. As an Isles fan, I for one feel for him, and wish him
the best.
