Saturday night at Yost Arena: Bowling Green 4, Michigan 3.

Ouch. This one stings a little, especially for any of us Michigan fans who
were maybe runnin' the mouths a little about a nationally top-ranked team
going up against the CCHA 8th place team.

Bowling Green came out forechecking agressively and turned a Michigan
turnover into a goal at the :52 mark of the first period. The Falcons
continued this style of play all night, while Michigan responded with a lot
of bad penalties. The Wolverines managed to kill all of these penalties,
but I think that all of the time they spent playing short-handed took them
out of any offensive flow, as Coach Red Berenson had to continually juggle
lines during the ensuing even strength shifts in order to rest his penalty
killers.

I thought I heard a whistle before Bowling Green's fourth goal, and I think
that that was what Michigan was arguing with the referee, but I'm not sure
it matters that the goal was allowed; I think that the Falcons would have
won the game anyway.

Lastly, shame on Michigan forward Dan Stiver for taking the last cheap shot
of the game and tripping a celebrating Falcon player, and thank you to the
Falcon for letting it go rather than igniting a post-game brawl.

p.s. Falcon Coach Jerry York sat about three rows above me to scout the
Michigan warmups. It occurred to me to ask him about the Manson
quote, but I passed on the opportunity. :-)
