More rumors concerning candidates for the MN coaching position, from Charley
Walters' column (St. Paul Pioneer Press):

"Available to the Gophers as men's hockey coach if Don Lucia were to
surprise and decline their offer is former Edina East and Michigan Tech star
Mel Pearson Jr., whose father played for the Minnesota Fighting Saints. A
renowned recruiter, Pearson is the top assistant for Red Berenson at
Michigan, which has won two NCAA championships in the past four seasons and
been to seven NCAA final fours in the decade. Pearson has turned down
several head-coaching offers as Berenson's heir apparent. The word is
Pearson will be offered the Colorado College job when Lucia opts for the
Gophers. But people who know say he would love the Gophers' job.

Gophers assistant Mike Guentzel could end up coaching in the U.S. Hockey
League for as much money as many college head coaches make. "

Can any Mich. fans add some insights on Mel Pearson, Jr.?
