Jeff Taffe of Hastings was named Mr. Hockey. The center had 39 goals and 51
assists for the Class AA runners-up. Other finalists were: Derrick
Byfuglien, Roseau; Jay Dardis, Proctor; Matt Koalska, Hill-Murray; and Dan
Welch, Hastings.

Hibbing's Rico Fatticci won the hardest shot competition with an 87 mph
slap shot; (At a senior game)
 
NHL scouts say 6-2, 175-pound Hastings center Jeff Taffe is the best player
and best pro prospect in the state high school hockey tournament at Target
Center. Taffe has committed to play for the Gophers next season.
 
Other state tournament NHL prospects: Paul Martin, a 6-1, 197-pound junior
defenseman from Elk River; senior forward Danny Welch of Hastings, also
committed to the Gophers; Roseau's Derrick Byfuglien and Josh Olson; and
Silver Bay's John Conboy.
